We’ve all been there, from the “I didn’t really need that” purchase to the “Should have waited til next pay day” purchase or the “Damn it went on sale 5 minutes after I bought it” purchase, but the remorse I am feeling is one I haven’t felt before.
My baby girl turns 10 next month and it just so happens that her music crush is going to be in Australia touring.
So to me, the logic was simple, spoilt or not we were going to Justin Bieber.
I was hesitant to begin with because of the cost of the tickets, I am pretty certain that even for $125 a ticket, our noses will be bleeding we’re that high and far back in the arena.
I have been planning this surprise trip from Tasmania to Sydney for months, we are going as a family and visiting one of the most iconic cities in the country for 3.5 days, a place that neither myself or my hubby have been to since we were kids.
Then it began, I started searching eBay to find her Justin Bieber apparel to save on the cost of buying it all at the concert when I stumbled across a huge huge amount of tickets to his shows being sold.
For the first time in my life, I was horrified and really realised the impact that the scalping industry can have. I had no choice but to purchase the cheapest tickets to the concert due to the fact all the better ones were sold. I now know that at least 50% of them were on eBay with these horrid people trying to make themselves a profit.
Now it did cross my mind to buy us some better seats but after the expense of the original tickets, accommodation and flights it just wasn’t an extra cost we could afford.
I had gotten over it until yesterday, then at work I was chatting to my customers about our upcoming trip to Sydney when I started to hear all about this article that was written on news.com.au yesterday, the title says it all “The concert no one wants to go to anymore” (http://news.com.au/entertainment/music/justin-bieber-the-concert-no-one-wants-to-go-to-anymore/story-e6frfn09-1226762423759)
Now, I get that he is a young pop star who has grown up in the spotlight and I have no doubt has the fortune of a small country but I am one of the parents that doesn’t and can’t excuse his behaviour. I am hopeful my 10yr old finds a new obsession soon.
I took Lily to see his first movie he released and after seeing it I gained a respect for him, needless to say the way he has started acting (just google new him and you will get a wealth of naughty stories) as he gets older has cancelled out every last bit of that.
So I guess we will go to the concert and hope that he restores a little of my respect in him!
I know we will have a wonderful time in Sydney but I have to say, the buyer’s remorse certainly doesn’t feel to be going away any time soon.
Oh and P.S JB, PULL YOUR PANTS UP!
